The American Community School (ACS) is a non-profit independent, co-educational day school offering a college preparatory instructional program leading to an American high school diploma. The school offers educational programs from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve.

ACS has a distinguished history as a leader of education in Jordan. Founded in 1955, ACS serves American and expatriate students from the business and diplomatic communities, as well as host country nationals. The school is housed on approximately nine acres of land in West Amman.

When ACS was first established, classes were taught in a private home with no more than 10 students in attendance. By 1957 the American Community Organization (ACO) was formed and the school opened its doors to 20 students and a Principal who also taught along with two other teachers.

In 1965, the growth of ACS led to its relocation to its present location and consisted of only 5 classrooms, a library and the round multi-purpose room.

Today ACS has 44 classrooms with fully equipped sports, fine and performing arts centers and state of the art science and technology labs.

All high school courses at ACS are at the college preparatory level. For our middle and high school students we offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses to learn and achieve at the highest level. Through AP's college-level courses and exams, students can earn college credit and advanced placement to stand out in the admissions process.

Through our membership in the Eastern Mediterranean Activities Conference (EMAC), we offer students opportunities to interact with other American and international schools at the varsity and junior varsity levels in athletics, academics, and fine arts.

ACS operates on a semester basis. First semester extends from August through December. Second semester is from January through June. The high school has an eight-block schedule, all students taking a minimum of seven classes.

ACS is fully accredited KG - 12 grade by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools.
