The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has been engaged in a variety of cutting-edge research and development activities as one of research institutes covering a broad spectrum of marine science and technology. With the vision of “Towards an integrated understanding of the Ocean, the Earth and Life” in mind, JAMSTEC has operated the deep submergence research vehicle SHINKAI 6500, the scientific deep sea drilling vessel CHIKYU, and other systems and facilities.
