「CELL」はCommunication ＆ E-Learning Libraryの頭文字。「細胞」という意味でもあります。
メディアライブラリーCELLは「新時代のハイテク図書館」という機能を越えて、大手前大学が将来めざすべき方向性や、これからの大学教育のあり方までをも凝縮した施設です。
このエビデンス（＝証拠）のひとつが、2007年より日本の四年制大学ではじめて導入した「ユニット自由選択制（R）」であり、もうひとつがこのCELLの小教室で行われるone to oneの緻密な教育です。
大手前大学はこれを「CELL教育」と名付け、小集団教育メソッドの新たなスタンダードとなることをめざしています。
