1967年イギリス北部のNEWCASTLE UPONTYNE ファッションカレッジに入学。
最終学年次彼自身の会社であるCRICKET CLOTHING LTD.設立。
73年にはパリの展示会SEHMに出展、日本向けには80年より、ほかの地域では84年にレーベルをNigel Cabournに変更。
97年にブランドを一時休止したが2003年にヒラリー卿をテーマにしたコレクションを発表、08年から本格始動。
09年には念願の旗艦店 THE ARMY GYM - Nigel Cabourn を東京にオープンさせる。
