活弁（かつべん）は、活動写真（映画）の弁士（活動写真弁士、活動弁士、活弁士、弁士、説明者、解説者などとも呼ばれる語り手）が、スクリーンの横に立ち、口頭で物語細部や登場人物の声を語る日本の芸能です。かつては七千人、八千人、１万人いたとも言われる弁士ですが、現在は十人余しかおりません。しかし、それぞれの弁士の話芸は着実に進化を遂げ、皆様のご来場を御待ちしています。まさに十人十色ですので、ぜひ足を運んで、一本の映画でも弁士の語りによって楽しみ方が無数に広がるというその様を体験していただきたいです。

Yata Aso and Koyata Aso are both professional Katsubenshies in Japan.

Let me introduce about Katsuben(活弁) briefly.

Katsuben is one of the Japanese traditional performance to enjoy silent films. The films are like produced by Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton, or any other films that has no music and sound. Katsubenshi that is a kind of story teller of the films talk almost all the lines instead of actors and actresses, standing by the screen. Katsubenshi has existed in Japan since cinema came to Japan in 1986.

and we are the Katsubenshi.

If you visit Japan or have a chance to see Katsuben, please enjoy yourself. It must be very enjoyable and precious time for you.

This year, 2016 is the Koyata's 20th anniversary as a professional Katsubenshi. There will be the anniversary event in Asakusa, Tokyo on Sep. 22nd to 24th.
