General information

ある日「ふっ」と思いました。
私達の身の回りにには日本の良いものがたくさんある事に。
伝統工芸の継承だとか、地場産業復興とかの難しい事は分かりません。
でも、お店にふらっと立ち寄ってくれた方に、
「これ、かっこいいな！」「わっ！かわいい！」と言われて、「この店に置いてあるモノは全部日本のモノなんだ～」「良いね、日本って」と思って貰えたらうれしいなと思います。
今の日本の魅力とは「この国の伝統文化と外国から取り入れた文化の融合のバランスの面白さ」だと思っています。
これが日本だ！と言い切れない多面性が、今の日本らしさだと思います。
そんな想いを込めて、お店の名前を「katakana/カタカナ」と決めました。
今の日本を軽やかに伝えられるお店に出来れば良いなと思っています。

t came to our thoughts one day
that there are lots of fine Japan-made goods around us.

We don’t know much about the preservation of traditional craft or re-establishment of local industry.
What we want is “Wow, this is cool!” or “This is kawaii!” from our customers who stroll into our shop, and if they think “Everything in this shop is made in Japan….Japan is pretty good.”, we’d be very happy.

The charm of today’s Japan is the “curious aspect arising from the balance between the cultural mixture of Japanese traditions and overseas cultures that we have made our own”.

With this new ‘multifaceted culture’ we feel that it can no longer simply be stated ‘This is Japan’; and this itself has become how ‘Today’s Japan’ is defined.
The name of our shop “Katakana” is derived from this concept.

We are hoping to make our shop naturally present ‘Today’s Japan’.
